COVID-19 update

Tuesday, 30th June 2020

PaddlePlus Members - Update 30 June. Leicester's Return to Lockdown.

Following the recent lock down of a portion of the Leicester Area we are left with no choice but to suspend all activity within the lockdown area.

We will continue to run sessions at venues outside of the lockdown area, for those living outside the area.

  • LOPC is closed. The site should not be used to launch or land.
  • CRT have closed the waterways within the lockdown area. This means you can not paddle on these stretches of water. Full statement here.
  • Club sessions at LOPC will once again be suspended, or moved if possible.
  • If you live inside the lockdown area, please do not book onto, or attend a session that is being run outside of the area.

For those outside of the Lockdown Area - Top 5 things you need to know

Sessions are being arranged that will run outside of the lockdown area, these will be run by leaders who live outside of that area.

As before, you must pre-book online. This post tells you all you need to know to get out padding with us again, we would really appreciate your support at this time.

Families are welcome to join us, all we ask is that children are accompanied on the water. At this time we are not taking new members, we will let you know when this changes

Sessions will be on multiple days, not just Thursdays and will be added to webcollect shortly.

  1. Book online

We are limiting numbers to those allowed by the current government advice, whatever that is at the time (max 6 currently), therefore to prevent disappointment we are asking you to pre-book online only. We not able to accept cash - please choose to pay online when booking. You can pay using Paypal or any credit\debit card. You do not need a paypal account. We have also made BACS payments possible, but would ask that you only use this if absolutely necessary due to the increase admin. We ask that you only book on if you are able to safely get yourself out of your boat and to the side if you capsize to limit the need for hands on rescues. Please contact us if you are unsure.
  1. COVID Symptoms

If you have booked on, but feel unwell with symptoms of COVID-19 or if you’ve had symptoms in the last 14 days, you must not attend the session. Please email or message us on Facebook. We will of course refund your session. If you become unwell with the symptoms of COVID-19 within a week of padding with us, please notify us via
  1. Follow good hygiene and social distancing practice

    • Wash your hands on arrival at your session, and after padding

    • Please bring your own hand sanitiser for your personal use

    • Socially distance yourself inline with current guidance from anyone outside of your household while with us, both on and off the water

    • Observe good personal hygiene, including Catch it, Bin it, Kill it

  1. Kit

Now that LOPC is closed, loaning kit is a little more difficult. Boats and Paddles *may* be available by pre-arrangement. Please contact the leader of your session in plenty of time. At this stage we are only loaning ‘hard’ kit (boats & paddles) on some sessions. You will be expected to clean the contact surfaces before and after use. The club will have cleaning supplies available. Your leader or coach will be able to advise you at the time.

Club BAs, spraydecks and helmets can be offered for long term (3 week+) loan for those that need it, again by pre-arrangement. During that time you will be responsible for it as if it was your own personal kit. You can request kit via our online form. Due to cleaning difficulties they will not be available on a session by session basis.

If you were thinking about buying your own, now may be a great time. Contact friends of the club - Desperate Measures, for a great deal. Don't forget to mention you are a PaddlePlus member.

  1. Have fun and relax

We know this is a daunting time for everyone, and you may have some nerves about returning to padding. If you’re worried about getting back on the water, then speak with the person leading your session, they will be able to help you with this. If you’re worried about COVID you can find more out about our response and how we are keeping you safe on our website

As before, we are in contact with clubs in the region via the British Canoeing RDT weekly teleconference. We will review the guidance on a weekly basis and update members with any changes.

Please stay in touch via our Facebook group.

All our risk assessments are available here.
